Progress

Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV), a former Klan member, has announced his endorsement of Barak Obama. Now, I am not naïve enough to believe that America has achieved Coca-Cola commercial levels of racial harmony, but this endorsement is pretty symbolic of the progress that the Democratic Party and a good bit of this nation has made on issues of race. Again, we have not yet reached Dr. King’s “Promised Land”, but damn if we aren’t working on it. America today is a different world from America circa 1950 and that is a Very Good Thing.
