The House of Representatives got a $3,100 pay raise yesterday because they refused to vote it down. Stop and read that again...

OK - A few years back Congress tied their raises to the increase in the Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) that is applied every year to Social Security payments. It was part of deal in which they get an automatic increase in exchange for forgoing any speaking fees. And by this means, the Reps have to vote against their own raise to not receive it. Shifty as hell but there we are.

Put aside that issue for moment and ask yourself, do these clowns actually deserve a raise? Have they performed at a level where you feel good about giving them another 3 grand rather than providing a few more scholarships or a handful of additional port security personnel? They aren't even performing the tasks that the Constitution proscribes. Are you comfortable with Congressional oversight of the war, Administration spying, Katrina reconstruction or any other issue for that matter? I am just asking...
