We own UVA

Hokies win 42-13, with 10 victories in the last 11 games. There is no joy in Hooville.

Creating their own Reality

Yesterday on Hannity, Dana Perino, former Bush Administration spokesflack, actually said the following:

"We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term".

What the fuck?!? And perhaps even worse was that neither Hannity nor his other guest made any effort to correct the omission of 9/11. Unbelievable.

Breathtakingly stupid or willfully dishonest? We report, you decide.

That’s a nice metaphor you have there

Via TPM, I see that the ever-entertaining Rep. Michelle Bachmann has once again said something so awesomely ridiculous that I am dumbstruck by the silly.

Rep. Michele Bachmann took to Fox this morning to promote her tea party rally this week, calling it the "Super Bowl of freedom."

And Michelle Bachmann is the Super Bowl of self-aggrandizing, blowhard half-wits. What’s next, the Stanley Cup of liberty? How about the Masters of democracy? If nothing else, that would make a great band name. But given the demography of your average teabagger, I vote for the Monster Trucker Rally of misplaced paranoia.

The election

I haven’t written much of anything on the election because frankly the Democrats’ chances are pretty awful. The GOP has the base revved up, framing this race as a chance to take President Obama down a peg. Bob McDonnell has successfully portrayed himself as a moderate pragmatist while being anything but and Creigh Deeds has run about as flat and unimaginative a campaign as one can without actually doing anything to disqualify one’s self. Seriously, Deeds has been about as inspiring as my deck furniture. All those factors have hurt the down ticket races as well. How else can one explain why an absolute nut like Ken Cuccinelli is beating Steve Shannon for Attorney General? So I am fairly confident, depressing as it is, that we are looking at a Republican sweep. That being the case, there’s not much else to say. Though I wish it were otherwise, the good guys are probably going to get smoked tomorrow.
